The New Generation of Superheroes

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Henry Cavill steaming up the front page of every magazine on the news shelves! Not that you’re going to find any females complaining. The recent wave of new faces taking on the world’s best loved superheroes comes in the form of thirty year old Henry Cavill. Cavill is the latest in a long line of stars to take on the role of Superman in Man of Steel.

The Man of Steel features Amy Adams as Lois Lane. Mc Adams isn’t the only new edition to Zack Snyder’s adaptation of Superman, there’s a new super suit. Cavill’s suit is much darker and manly than previous Suits worn by the likes of Christopher Reeve, Dean Cain, Brandon Routh and Tom Welling.

Superman over the years

Cavill isn’t the first, or indeed the last, to take on the role of a well-established character. In 2012, Andrew Garfield suited up as Spiderman in The Amazing Spiderman. Garfield took over the role from Tobey Maguire who debuted as Spiderman in 2002. While Garfield’s version of everyone’s favourite spider was no runaway success like Maguire’s, he has managed to land the role again for the upcoming The Amazing Spiderman 2.

Gotham City has been blessed with numerous Batmen over the years, including George Clooney! Now that Christopher Bale’s stint on The Dark Knight Trilogy has ended will there be a new Batman in town?

Everyone’s favourite crazy-tempered-green-monster, The Hulk, has seen Eric Banna and Mark Ruffalo run around in iconic purple shorts.

Chris Pine and Ryan Reynolds have been fortunate enough to be the first to portray Captain America and The Green Lantern.

The success of both has been challenged but they are paving the way for new adaptations of classic favourites.

  1. Article was nice to read but you may have your info a bit wrong. (Not judging)
Superman was first played by George Reeves before Christopher reeves came along.
Batman: Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George clooney, Christian bale and Adam west if we add TV. He’s still one of my faves.

Mr. America himself was played by Chris Evans not Chris pine. Mr pine is in series such as the remakes of the start trek as he portrays Captain Kirk. (Previously played by William shatner)
Hulk: first played by Lou ferriagno, Eric Bana, Edward Norton and lastly mark ruffalo. But always voiced by mr Ferriagno himself.
