The Best of YouTube: Makeup

VanessaTaaffe's best of beauty

Makeup can be a girl’s best friend… or worst enemy. Choosing the right products and knowing how to apply them correctly can often be a challenge! Luckily, the makeup gurus on YouTube are always close by to lend us a helping hand!
From foundation to false lashes, I’ve complied a list of the best YouTubers to educate us about all things makeup and skincare.

EmilyNoel83 aka The Beauty Broadcast

If you are looking for a truly wonderful makeup artist on YouTube, look no further than the gorgeous Emily.  A former newscaster, Emily features extensive tutorials on makeup for HD lighting and camera settings.  Her reviews are honest, informative and extremely trustworthy. Her channel features tutorials for all occasions along with expert tips and advice. Specific brand tutorials mixed with her personal opinions on all products used, including brushes and skincare, give the viewer a good indication of which products are worth buying and which you could leave on the shelf. This girl knows her false lashes too!  I have to award Emily the title of Best-False-Lash-Applier. What Emily doesn’t know about falsies isn’t worth knowing. Her channel features various lash application videos aswell as a brilliant collection of drugstore (high-street) and high-end products. Whether you’re a makeup addict or makeup newbie, Emily has something for everyone!

MacBarbie07 aka Beth

Bethany Mota’s channel, MacBarbieo7, is young, fun and FULL of energy! All of Beth’s videos are really well put together, flowing seamlessly from one topic to the next. I love that she features drugstore and affordable products in her tutorials. She is bridging the gap and reaching out to a younger generation of girls who are either advancing their love of makeup or learning how to apply products correctly. Beth uploads a brilliant range of tutorials with teenage themes and events in mind like prom, back to school, days out and nights out with friends. She incorporates makeup, fashion, beauty and DIY perfectly. There are even a few random vlogs mixed throughout her tutorials. These usually involve a great location like the beach, her local Wal-Mart or a New York adventure.

Lisa Eldridge

Celebrity makeup artist, Lisa Eldridge, has quite an extensive CV. Her work has graced the covers of multiple publications. Vogue, Marie Claire, Elle, Vanity Fair, you name it Lisa has applied the makeup for it. Her clients include Emma Watson, Kate Winslet, Cheryl Cole, the One Direction Boys, Jessica Beil, Keira Knightly, Rosie Huntington-Whitley, the list is endless. She also features in Chanel’s makeup tutorials on their YouTube channel. It’s a miracle she finds the time to do all this and film tutorials for her own channel! Her videos include the best application tips and general product advice on YouTube.  She uses a lot of high-end products but offers good drugstore alternatives for the majority of the high-end products she uses. Many of Lisa’s videos focus on specific topics like how to get fuller lips, how to pick the right foundation or how to perfect the smokey eye. Lisa has an amazing, hypnotic and calming voice. She is so easy to listen to and follow. I can’t recommend her channel enough!

GossMakeupArtist aka Wayne

Wayne’s channel offers honest, reliable opinions on every product known to man, on top of application tips and opinions on makeup trends. He competently explains all types of makeup fads, think Kim Kardashian’s yellow primer. Wayne’s videos are straight to the point, informative and interesting. He really knows his stuff, not just about the products but the ingredients in the products. If you want to learn more about how makeup works, how makeup is designed and what it’s supposed to do,  GossMakeupArtist is definitely for you.

Tanya Burr

Another teen and young adult favourite, Tanya Burr’s brilliant makeup tutorials are inspired by celebrity and red-carpet looks. She features numerous natural and everyday looks too that are perfect if you’re going shopping, out for Lunch or to school. Tanya listens to her viewer’s feedback and comments and she uses a variety of drugstore and high-end products.  She is very fond of MAC which is great if you’re a MAC lover or you want to learn more about their products. Tanya’s channel also features skincare and fashion hauls. A haul, for those of you that don’t know, is a video featuring a collection of products or clothes. Many of her videos often feature special guests. These are mostly other YouTube stars.  Her “Get Ready with Me” videos are especially interesting when she is going to a movie premiere or giving you a rare insight into the madness of London Fashion Week.  All of the videos featured on the Tanya Burr’s channel are filmed to the highest quality and flow nicely. Tanya comes across as a genuinely lovely girl who really cares about her followers. An all-round fantastic channel!

MakeupByAlli aka Alli

MakupbyAlliCollage

Alli’s channel features excellent tutorials for all occasions and events, day or night.  I particularly love her “No-Makeup-Makeup” looks and her natural everyday routines. They’re really wearable and easy to recreate.  Aside from a full on makeup routines she has videos tailored to specific applications. If you want to perfect applying blusher, contouring your face or creating the perfect airbrushed, HD eyebrows, Alli can show you how. She breaks down each area and the steps are super easy to follow. All her tutorials are filmed using a HD camera. Out of all the makeup gurus I’ve mentioned, Alli makes the best use of zoom and close-up shots. Viewers can actually see what she doing and how she is applying the product. She too uses a wide variety of products, the majority of which are available worldwide. Like most beauty YouTubers she features the odd hair tutorial and product reviews in her monthly favourites videos. If anyone reading this is hoping to start their own beauty channel or wishes to improve their own videos, Alli is the girl to learn from. She has videos on how she films and edits her tutorials which are definitely worth a watch.  Alli is a beautiful girl, with a lovely personality and a passion for sharing her love of all things beauty!
