Best Dressed October 2013

Now that November is upon us, it’s time to recap the best looks from October; the month that Miley covered up, (who would have thought!) and, of course,  the month Prince George made his second public appearance. Winter has landed as many opted to cover up and keep it chic.

Bundled Up for Winter

Blake Lively, the new face of L’Oreal Paris, stepped out in New York in an Isabel Marant cosy jumper with printed leggings. This is a look I’m sure will divide many, but personally I think Blake could wear a bin bag and look fabulous!

Blake Lively and Olivia Palermo Jumpers

Fashion Princess Olivia Palermo looked super chic in black and white in New York on October 9th.  Olivia takes this look from ordinary to chic by adding a belt to accentuate her minuscule waist.

Cream of the Crop

Kate Middleton and Baby George co-ordinated their beautiful dresses on October 23rd. Kate looked elegant in Alexander Mc Queen, with matching hat, while George wore a handmade replica of the royal christening gown.

Black to the Bone

Actress Clara Paget attended a Gucci party on Bond Street, London, last month. Clara looked elegant in her below the knee dress with sheer detailing across the chest and long sleeves. This is perfect way to dress for the colder winter months and still look fashionable.

Nicole Scherzinger is becoming a regular feature on my Monthly Best Dressed list!  Nicole accessorised a figure hugging black one piece with a fun leopard print handbag and white shoes in London.

MTV presenter Laura Whitmore wore this black Christopher Kane creation to the Scottish Fashion Awards on October 9th,  demonstrating that sheer is definitely not going anywhere for winter.

Cara Delevinge brought some high fashion to the AMFAR event in Brazil. Cara accessorised her plain black jumpsuit with matching diamanté belt and necklace.

English rose and everyone’s favourite Crawley, Michelle Dockery, looked lovely in black at a ChildLine event in the Savoy Hotel London. The shoes let this outfit down but Michelle can carry them off.

Charlize Theron brought life to her simple black gown with intricate shoulder embellishments, a big trend from Spring/Summer 2014, as she attended the Beverly Hills Arts Gala.

Naya Rivera and Olivia Wilde wore similar white print trends.  Glee actress Naya, who was wedding dress shopping in LA, looked runway ready with her black bag and nude heels in her structured dress. Olivia sported a higher neck line and longer hem line to the International Women’s Foundation.

Samantha Barks looked radiant in a printed mini dress at the Classic Brit Awards on October 2nd. The newly single actress matched her shoes to the subtle gold tones running through her dress.

Hunger Games actress Elizabeth banks wore a red printed crop top and matching skirt to the Variety Power of Women event on October 5th.

Casual Ladies

Cheryl Cole and Selena Gomez looked effortless this month in leather look trousers and white tops.

Model Karlie Kloss looked amazing as she posed for Coach’s new collection on the streets of New York.

Julianne Hough and Lily Collins kept it causal but chic, at the 30Seconds to Mars concert in LA on October 13th. Julianne paired a plaid red top with a black leather jacket, leggings, gorgeous boots and a fun hat. Lily wore a long camel coat which she also accessorised with black.

Miley Cyrus wore this long sequined green number to The Fashion Group International event on October 22nd.  Somehow I have a feeling we won’t see Miley this covered up for a long time to come.

Miley Cyrus and Ashley Roberts

Ashley Roberts wore a dark green jumpsuit, not unlike the same one Nicole Scherzinger wore last month to and Autism Fundraiser in London.

Not forgetting the Fellas!

Michael Fassbender looked sharp as he took a break from gracing the front pages of magazines to attend to The Councillor premiere in London, October 9th.

Michael Fassbender and Prince Harry

Prince Harry kept it simple with a crisp white shirt, navy chinos and brown suede shoes, on October 1st as he left the Book of Mormon theatre show in Notting Hill, London.

As always, let me know your best dressed favourites!

The #Selfie Obsession

Gone are the days of disposable cameras and film rolls! No more waiting for a week to see how your pictures turned out. Sadly, the excitement of one hour photo development has disappeared. Nowadays we rely on digital cameras and smartphones to view our pictures. The majority of the world’s population have a smartphone of some make or form. According to,1.08 billion people own a smartphone.91.4 million of these users are from the US.

iPhone and Android’s introduction of the front facing camera have encourage a new generation of selfie-aholics.  As always, celebrities have helped encourage the selfie trend. Kim Kardashian is possibly the biggest selfie culprit on Twitter.

Numerous apps have been developed for smartphones to enable instant sharing of our snaps online. Instagram, Flickr, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest make it easier than ever to upload and share pictures online.Pic Sharing Apps

Rihanna utilises Instagram daily under the name, BadGalRiRi. Her risque selfies never fail to make headlines.

Many blogs and websites offer a guide for us mere mortals, to taking the best possible selfies. The best Dos and Don’ts can be found at the links below.

There are even Facebook and Twitter pages dedicated to sharing the best and worst selfies. However, the majority of the “best” selfies always seem to be aimed at over 18 audiences…Regardless, the trend is taking the internet by storm. Sharing self-portraits dates back to a pre-internet era. It’s believed the first self-portrait taken on a camera was by Robert Cornelius 1839. Although it doesn’t quite meet the modern selfie standards of today, he did set the bench mark pretty high with his nonchalant pose!

During the 1880’s cameras came with self-timers, while Polaroid sold the first instant camera during the 1970’s. Polaroid cameras could be held at arm’s length, much like a smartphone, to take selfies.

On a personal note I think that the phrase selfie has taken on a life of its own. A front facing picture with someone else isn’t necessarily a selfie in my books.

One thing is for sure, selfies are not going away anytime soon!

What do you think of the #selfie trend?
