Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Intensive Mask Review

Working in a hairdresser’s part time has made me determined to try and know as much as I can about products available for dry and damaged hair. Particularly conditioning masks. I am often in contact with dry or damaged hair and know the value of a good deep conditioning treatment. Not for other’s hair but my own too. While I wouldn’t classify my own hair as overly dry or damaged I like to use products aimed at this hair type to keep my own in good condition. Years ago I stopped using a normal conditioner and instead replaced it with an intensive mask. I know this might seem a little extreme but I find it is the best way to condition, strengthen and care for my hair.

Now you know what I’m working with, let me introduce you to Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Intensive Mask. This is a ‘rinse me out’ conditioning mask aimed at very dry and damaged hair.  It invites you to “Step this way to hydration heaven… Give me 1 minute to do my stuff, and rinse me away. For best results, let’s get together 2-3 times a week”.  I have steadily been using this product now for a month and as with all Herbal Essences products I was sold on the smell alone. An intensive but light coconutty smell greets you once you unscrew the plastic lid of the tub.

The mask itself is a light blue-white colour which ties in with the blue packaging, which I quite like. While the initial smell promises so much I find that it doesn’t leave hair as intensely scented as the product in the tub. The best way to get the smell to stick is, once you are out of the shower, squeeze the water out of your hair and blow dry immediately. I found that towel drying or air drying hair for a while before blowdrying takes away whatever little scent has transferred to my hair.

The product claims to leave you with soft, shiny, conditioned and hydrated hair and it delivers these well. I find my hair is definitely soft and hydrated when I use this mask. This softness usually lasts for about a day, maybe a day and a half, all depending on what I’m doing. I haven’t noticed my hair that much shinier but like with the scent, this product delivers best when the freshly treated hair is blowdried. As far as value for money goes, you get a tub of 200 ml of product from around £2.50 – £4.39. I bought mines in ASDA, where recently I seem to be buying all my beauty products, on offer at 2 for £4.

This is a good mask for under a fiver and I have started a second tub. I used to use Herbal Essences products in my early teens but stopped because I found they were leaving too much residue on my hair. This is the first product in their extensive range that I have really enjoyed using and would recommend. Although Herbal Essences Hello Hydration is not the most nourishing hair mask I’ve ever used, for the price and promises of soft, hydrated hair, it is a great mask and definitely worth a try.

Let me know if you have tried this or any other products and what you made of them. I’m always looking for new ones to try!

This girl knows her false lashes too!  I have to award Emily the title of Best-False-Lash-Applier. What Emily doesn’t know about falsies isn’t worth knowing. Her channel features various lash application videos aswell as a brilliant collection of drugstore (high-street) and high-end products. Whether you’re a makeup addict or makeup newbie, Emily has something for everyone!

Bethany Mota’s channel, MacBarbieo7, is young, fun and FULL of energy! All of Beth’s videos are really well put together, flowing seamlessly from one topic to the next. I love that she features drugstore and affordable products in her tutorials. She is bridging the gap and reaching out to a younger generation of girls who are either advancing their love of makeup or learning how to apply products correctly. Beth uploads a brilliant range of tutorials with teenage themes and events in mind like prom, back to school, days out and nights out with friends. She incorporates makeup, fashion, beauty and DIY perfectly. There are even a few random vlogs mixed throughout her tutorials. These usually involve a great location like the beach, her local Wal-Mart or a New York adventure.

Her videos include the best application tips and general product advice on YouTube.  She uses a lot of high-end products but offers good drugstore alternatives for the majority of the high-end products she uses. Many of Lisa’s videos focus on specific topics like how to get fuller lips, how to pick the right foundation or how to perfect the smokey eye. Lisa has an amazing, hypnotic and calming voice. All her tutorials are filmed using a HD camera. Out of all the makeup gurus I’ve mentioned, Alli makes the best use of zoom and close-up shots. Viewers can actually see what she doing and how she is applying the product. She too uses a wide variety of products, the majority of which are available worldwide. Like most beauty YouTubers she features the odd hair tutorial and product reviews in her monthly favourites videos.
