New Year’s Beauty Inspiration

As 2014 fast approaches there is no better time to draw some inspiration from the best celebrity makeup looks of the last twelve months. If you’re heading to a party, hosting a party, or simply going out on the town to countdown to midnight on December 31st, what better way than with a great makeup look?

Classic Smokey Eye

Jennifer Lawrence Frida Pinto Cara Delevigne MakeupA classic smokey eye never fails to impress. This look can be worn with a darker lip like Jennifer, Lawrence and Frida Pinto demonstrate. If you prefer a more toned down look but still want a smokey eye, Rachel Weiz minimized the eye liner on her lower lash line but went for a defined brow and berry lip.Rachel Weiz Kerry Washington Heidi Klum MakeupKerry Washington and Heidi Klum opted for a nude lip but heavily lined top and bottom lash line. Heavily lined upper and inner rims, lots of mascara and a bright inner corner are essential for this look.

A Bold Lip

The perfect way to stand out this festive season is to adopt a bold lip colour. Tread with caution when wearing this look. You don’t want to look like a clown with massive red lips! Pair a bold burgundy lip with neutral eye makeup like Miranda Kerr.Clare Danes Miranda Kerr Kerry Washington Jessica Chastain Makeup Ditching the false lashes when you’re going for a dark lip is a good idea. If you’re feeling brave, try a glittery copper eye like Clare Danes. If burgundy isn’t your colour, Kerry Washington and Jessica Chastain paired their berry lips with neutral eyes but false lashes on the outer corners of their eyes for some definition.

A Dramatic LookAmanda Seyfried Taylor Swift Jessica Alba Makeup

For a head turning look this New Year, thick heavy eye liner and dramatic false lashes are sure to grab anyone’s attention. Amanda Seyfried paired her heavy eyeliner and falsies with bronzed lids, pink shiny lips and a natural cheek colour. Taylor Swift wore a similar style but with less dramatic lashes and liner. Taylor decided on a more bronzed eye look and continued it onto the lower lash line. She also with a matte natural pink lip. Stepping away from the bronzed and copper tones, Jessica Alba worked a shimmery metallic lid, highlighted her inner corners and spread it out to the outer corner on the under eye area which photographed nicely. Jessica lined her lower waterline and topped off her look with bold false lashes and again, a pale lip colour. Jessica also went for a dewy finish with her foundation in comparison to Amanda and Taylor. This is completely optional and down to personal preference.

NaturalKate Bosworth Angelina Jolie Sienna Miller Makeup

If you prefer to keep your look natural or don’t wear makeup on a regular basis you don’t have to go OTT to look elegant and sophisticated. Kate Bosworth shows that a lined upper rim, lashings of mascara and a warm berry lip and cheek make natural super chic. Angelina Jolie makes minimal makeup uber-glamorous with a heavy thick line on the outer corners of her lid, gradually fading and thinning towards her inner corner. Natural false lashes on the outer corner, no bottom lash mascara and a subtle fade and blend between the bottom and top liner on the outer corner connect the two lines. Subtly lined lips with a hint of gloss, finish off the look. Sienna Miller also goes for a natural lid this time with no liner or falsies.  Coats of mascara on the top lashes and minimal coats on the bottom lashes in company with a defined brow and pale lip is the most elegant way to achieve this minimal look.Rosie Huntington Whitely Beyonce Clare Danes Makeup

However, you can still do a natural and make it interesting. Rosie Huntington Whitely used black kohl liner on her top and inner waterline with a tiny, subtle wing at the outer corners. Beyoncé also wore this look but added some darker shadows on her lids. Her highlighted cheeks and arched brows set off the look. Clare Danes wears a natural red lip with a hint of glitter on her eyelids with mascara on her top lashes only.

Makeup can be a girl’s best friend… or worst enemy. Choosing the right products and knowing how to apply them correctly can often be a challenge! Luckily, the makeup gurus on YouTube are always close by to lend us a helping hand!
From foundation to false lashes, I’ve complied a list of the best YouTubers to educate us about all things makeup and skincare.

This girl knows her false lashes too!  I have to award Emily the title of Best-False-Lash-Applier. What Emily doesn’t know about falsies isn’t worth knowing. Her channel features various lash application videos aswell as a brilliant collection of drugstore (high-street) and high-end products. Whether you’re a makeup addict or makeup newbie, Emily has something for everyone!

Bethany Mota’s channel, MacBarbieo7, is young, fun and FULL of energy! All of Beth’s videos are really well put together, flowing seamlessly from one topic to the next. I love that she features drugstore and affordable products in her tutorials. She is bridging the gap and reaching out to a younger generation of girls who are either advancing their love of makeup or learning how to apply products correctly. Beth uploads a brilliant range of tutorials with teenage themes and events in mind like prom, back to school, days out and nights out with friends. She incorporates makeup, fashion, beauty and DIY perfectly. There are even a few random vlogs mixed throughout her tutorials. These usually involve a great location like the beach, her local Wal-Mart or a New York adventure.
