Best Dressed December 2014 & January 2015

It’s been a long time since I’ve featured a monthly best dressed. To make up for my slacking I’ve decided to merge December and January into one post. Thank goodness award season is up and running. It always provides so many gorgeous dresses straight from the runways any many of those dresses make their first red carpet débuts. With the countdown to the Oscars under way, all keen fashion eyes will be peeled to see who wears what. Until then, here’s a round up of some of the best so far from the award season and last December’s picks.

The Golden Globes 2015

Lupita Nyong'o, Emily Blunt and Viola Davies at the Golden Globes 2015

Lupita Nyong’o, Emily Blunt and Viola Davies at the Golden Globes 2015

Remember last year when Lupita Nyong’o was cooking up a storm on the red carpet with her killer dresses and equally killer personality? This year Lupita has continued her winning streak, stepping out onto the Golden Globes red carpet in a purple and white floral and feathered Giambattista Valli gown. Emily Blunt showed some skin in a white flowy column Michael Kors gown. The criss-cross halter neckline and the skirt on this dress are beautifully executed and showed off by Emily. Viola Davies matched the carpet in a simple and elegant red Donna Karen dress.

ulianne Moore, Slam Hayek and Reece Witherspoon at the Golden Globes 2015

Julianne Moore, Salma Hayek and Reece Witherspoon at the Golden Globes 2015

Winning lots of awards this season for both her film, Still Alice, and fashion, Julianne Moore features twice on my list this month. Pictured abouve at the Golden Globes in a feathered and metallic Givenchy gown, Julianne looks like an award statue herself! Salma Hayek attended the event in a beautiful creamy gown with silver undertones, set off perfectly by the silver belt around her waist. My only criticism is the flower in her hair… Reece Witherspoon, also a repeat this month, look stunning in a slim fitting Calvin Klein silver dress, accented by a great, simple hair-do.

The SAG Awards 2015

Felicity Jones has achieved notoriety not only for her role in The Theory of Everything, but for her fashion choices this award season. Pictured here, Felicity is wearing a peach structured Balenciaga dress. Julianne wore another Givenchy dress to the SAG’s, this time a green beaded number while Reece wore an off the shoulder white, full length Armani dress.

Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2014

Candice Swanepoel, Karlie Kloss and Taylor Swift at The Victoria's Seecret Fashion Show

Candice Swanepoel, Karlie Kloss and Taylor Swift at The Victoria’s Seecret Fashion Show

In all white everythiiingg (couldn’t ressit!) the Victoria’s Secret models landed into London, accompanied by Taylor Swift, to launch the biggest lingerie show of the year. Candice Swanepoel wore a risqué sheer white lace gown, similar to one Beyonce wore to the Grammy’s. Alos on the pink carpet, Karlie Kloss matched her neck-tie with her shoes in a masculine vibed dress with a slit in the front. Taylor combined sheer and a slit on the carpet at the event, incorporating some fishnet detailing across the chest and sleeve.

Casual Chicas

Jessica Alba, Rosie Huntington Whitley, Karlie Kloss

Jessica Alba, Rosie Huntington Whitley, Karlie Kloss

Battling the December cold in NYC Jessica Alba looked cosy-chic in black skinny jeans, parka, super-white runners and a casual cotton hat. Looking ever the model off duty, Rosie Huntington Whitley steeped out in a gorgeous military green double breasted jacket, white t-shirt, navy jeans and knee high suede boots. I love this outfit as much as I love Rosie’s new hair! Also pictured in NYC during December, Karlie Kloss wore leather full length, all in one, leggings and boots. Yes, leggings and have boots at the bottom! She kept it casual in a grey knit and white striped shirt, topped with a Burberry Mac.

Best Dressed November 2014

While most of us are covering and wrapping up warm for winter, we can all live vicariously through this month’s best dressed. I always love this time of year on the red carpet as we see some gorgeous gowns to get us excited about the upcoming awards season. Look out for some stunning looks from Kate Hudson, Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek.

Chic Nudes and Silver

Molly King, Kate Hudson and Nicole Scherzinger

Molly King, Kate Hudson and Nicole Scherzinger

The Saturday’s star and fashionista Molly King was pictured leaving the Casio Sheen event in Covert Garden, London. Molly had her signature tanned legs on show wearing strappy silver heels and a nude Peter Pan collared, skater skirt dress. Similarly in nude, Kate Hudon stunned at the LACMA Art Film event in a Gucci gown. This is definitely my favourite look from last month. I love the scalloped hem line, gathering on the waist and one shoulder detailing. This is a perfect dress to get us all excited for the upcoming awards season. Nicole Scherzinger walked the red carpet at the Global Gift Foundation in London last month. Nicole wore a metallic Ermanno Scervino midi dress with silver shoes, slicked back hair and a bold lip.

Press Call Looks

Jessica Chastain, Angelina Jolie and Amy Adams

Jessica Chastain, Angelina Jolie and Amy Adams

Jessica Chastain looked elegant in emerald as she attended the A Most Violent Year press call in LA. Pairing her capped sleeved over the knee dress with pointed black heels, Jessica kept her hair and makeup natural, opting for a bright pink nail instead. Angelina Jolie wore a beautiful Gucci Premiere full length dress to the Unbroken Sydney premiere. The silk dress boasts a gorgeous lace overlay and neckline. Angelina always get’s it right on the redcarpet. Amy Adams, also attending a press photo call in LA last month kept it neutral in navy. Like Jessica she paired her simple dress with pointed patent heels. A big trend this season.

Street Style

Katie Holmes, Katherine Heigl and Gemma Arterton

Katie Holmes, Katherine Heigl and Gemma Arterton

In NYC last month Katie Holmes attended an event at Apple. Katie kept it casual in blue jeans, a grey wool jumper with printed neck detailing and my least favourite part of the look, red-tan ankle boots. Katerine Heigl looked effortlessly cool as she was papped at the airport. The grey jumper and coat combo is perfectly executed with black jeans and white-grey slip on shoes. Casual-chic at it’s finest. Actress Gemma Arterton battled the British breeze in a gorgeous winter outfit. Wearing a brown heavy woollen over coat, Gemma addeda white shirt under her cable knit jumper. Like Katherine, she also paired her look with black jeans and gorgeous brown Chelsea boots.

Black and White Combos

Selma Hyek, Carrie Underwood and Angelina Jolie

Sama Hayek, Carrie Underwood and Angelina Jolie

Salma Hayek, also attening the LACMA Art and Film event, looked wonderful in a white in (you guessed it), Gucci. This dress looks amazing on Salma, the column style displays her waist to perfection and the embellished neckline which splits off into a halter style is so unusual and beautiful. The silver clutch further adds to the classy look. Top marks from me. Singer Carrie Underwood looked very wintery at the Concer for Valor in Washington DC. Carrie paired knee length boots with a full skirted coat and fluffy scarf. Once again, Angelina Jolie is featured on the Best Dressed list. Attending the London premiere of Unbroken, this time Angelina wore a beautiful white Ralph and Russo over the knee dress. My favourite [art of this look is the bolero cape. It’s perfect for winter and super elegant.

Style Inspiration: Emmanuelle Alt

Emmanuelle Alt, Editor-in-Chief Vogue Paris

Emmanuelle Alt, Editor-in-Chief Vogue France

Two months ago flipping through the July issue of British Vogue, I came across an article, “Control ALT”. Despite the bold title it was the accompanying picture that captured my attention. A tall stunning brunette with a slight smirk leaning against a wall with two windows and standing near a blue rug, arms crossed over a sequined Saint Laurent jacket met by a pair of black skinny jeans. This impossibly cool and captivating woman featured in a four page spread was editor-in-chief of Vogue France, Emmanuelle  Alt.

The article chronicled Alt’s time and influence at Vogue France. It also featured snippets of her personal style. The ten pictures accompanying the write up left me feeling inspired by Alt’s style. Her look is effortless, classic, cool and typically French! Emmanuelle’s style has become as influential as the girls she features in her magazine.

Typically Alt’s style consists of skinny black or white jeans, boots or reasonably sized pointed heels. After some extensive Googling, I failed to find any photos of Alt in a skirt or dress. Jeans and tailored trousers are a must in the Alt Uniform. Another staple includes coats or jackets belted, never buttoned. The colour scheme employed by Alt generally alternates between black, white, blues, greys and back to black.

Emmanuelle Alt Blazers

Alt wearing various oversized blazers

Alt is regularly spotted on her way to shows or meetings in oversized blazers with rolled up sleeves, a simple tshirt and signature black jeans always grazing the calves with a pair of pointed black heels to match.

Alt's belted jackets

Alt’s belted jackets

Alt never buttons her jackets, opting to close them with a belt. I love this look! It’s so stylish and she still looks comfy and warm.

Emmanuelle Alt Jeans

Alt looking more casual, yet still chic, in jeans, also pictured Alt’s daughter.

All of Alt’s looks are easily replicated and very wearable. Everyone will have a pair of black or denim jeans and a coat or shirt they can style together.

For me, it’s the the simplicity of Alt’s style that makes her a style icon.

Let me know your favourite Emmanuelle Alt look and if she has inspired your style!

Best Dressed April 2014

Apologies! This post is soooo late. How and ever, April was a great month for celebrity fashion. America’s most famous music festival Coachella saw stars line out in droves to sing, bob and get papped in some boho-chic getups. The red carpets last month weren’t overly crowded but Australia provided some gowns to lust over at the Logie Awards. Speaking of Australia, Kate Middleton and Prince William provided us with ample looks on their tour of Oz which you can see here if you missed them. Of course, there were some casual strollers, airport hoppers and street styles last month too.

Coachella

Paris and Nicki Hilton, Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner and Selena Gomez

Paris and Nicky Hilton, Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner and Selena Gomez at Coachella 2014

Socialite’s Paris and Nicky Hilton were spotted at the festival in California. Both sisters wore floaty, printed dresses. Paris wore festival flowers in her hair, while Nicky wore hers in a plait across her head and messy bun. Both opted for sandals and, of course, large sunglasses. Kendall Jenner sported numerous looks over the course of Coachella but this was one of my favourites. Kendall’s look was typically ‘festival’ and no doubt will be copied by many. Wearing gorgeous suede cowboy boots, she showed off her model legs in high waisted denim short shorts with hippy belt. On op, Kendall wore a white embellished crop top and a sleeveless cape cardigan. Her sister Kylie was picture with Selena Gomez wearing denim shorts and a long grey top which covered all but the pockets of her shorts with a pair of black ankle boots. My favourite accessory and big trend from the festival is definitely the brown suede hat. Selena also wore a brown hat with her look, a white sheer knitted floral cover up with white shorts, black bikini top and black DMs.

Logies 2014

Comando Steve and Michelle Bridges, Kassandra Clementi and Andrew Morley

TV Couples Comando Steve and Michelle Bridges, Kassandra Clementi and Andrew Morley, Logies 2014

The Aussie version of the UK TV Awards was an elegant affair at this years Logie red carpet. The Biggest Loser coaches and couple Comando Steve and Michelle Bridges took a night off from their gruelling training sessions to walk the carpet together. Steve wearing a classic tux with smoking slippers and Michelle wore a lovely off-white dress with a beautiful bodice. Home and Away hotties and real life couple Kassandra Clementi and Andrew Morley walked the red carpet together also.  Kassandra stunned in a gold lace gown while Andrew wore a grey three-piece suit with matching blue tie and checked shirt.

Shelley Craft, Rebecca Judd, Dannii Minogue

Shelley Craft, Rebecca Judd, Dannii Minogue, Logies 2014

Tv personality Shelley Craft wore a sheer nude full length dress with a beautiful pooling train and navy printed detailing on the toso, chest and shoulders. Model and presenter Rebecca Judd wore an interesting purple and lilac gown to the event. While I will admit there are a lot of different styles going on in this dress, Rebecca pulled it off well. If she dropped the belt it would have been perfect. Danni Minogue donned a metallic gown with a shocking side split and super high silver shoes!

Causal Chic

Emma Watson, Olivia Palermo and Johannes Huebl, Cara Santana

Emma Watson, Olivia Palermo and Johannes Huebl, Cara Santana

Actress Emma Watson was papped at JFK. Emma wore black skinny ripped jeans, black ankle boots, hat and top with sheer panel detailing. To lift all the black  she added a plum handbag. Style couple of the moment Olivia Palermo and fiancé Johannes Huebl took to the streets of NYC looking like they stepped off the pages of a magazine. Olivia wore all black, skinny jeans, sleeveless coat  and sheer top with black ‘eye’ pumps. Johannes was a little more colourful wearing cream chinos, desert boots, white shirt and light green jumper combo with a brown tweed bomber jacket. They’re too perfect for words! Cara Santana looked effortlessly stylish in LA. She wore light blue skinny jeans with a white top, caramel coloured leather jacket. She paired her look with a dark brown belt, t-bar heels and matching brown bag.

Red Carpet Premiers

Kate Upton, Elizabeth Banks, Cameron Diaz

Kate Upton, Elizabeth Banks, Cameron Diaz

Vogue cover girl, Kate Upton wore metallic D&G dress. to the premier of her latest film The Other Woman Kate matched her pointed shoes and kept her jewellery and hair simple. Elizabeth Banks looked lovely in a pink and black over-the knee Monique Lhuillier dress. Elizabeth was attending the Walk of Shame premier. Like Kate, she wore pointed toes heels in black to tie in with her outfit. Cameron Diaz, also attending the The Other Woman premier wore a nude and silver Emilio Pucci dress. There long sleeves and aztec-esque print is lovely on Cameron and she ties it all together with nude shoes.

White Wonders

Emma Stone, Kylie, Taylor Swift

Emma Stone, Kylie, Taylor Swift

Emma stone wore a white D&G lace number to attend The Amazing Spiderman premier. When i first saw this i thought it was too much white for Emma, as she is so pale, but i like the addition of black ankle strapped shoes and her forehead plait is a great way to breakup her paleness up top. Kylie Minogue looked fabulous in Roberto Cavalli as she walked the red carpet at the Logies 2014 in Australia. Kylie looks old school Hollywood in this dress and her side swept hair is amazing. I can’t say enough good things about this dress, I love it! Taylor Swift also opted for white but paired it with a black skirt and shoes at the Academy of Country Music Awards, wearing J Mendel. Taylor wore her newly chopped hair in signature curls and kept her accessories minimal, a gold bracelet, black clutch and gold earrings.

Print, Floral and 3D

Miranda Kerr, Isabel Lucas, Lupita Nyong'o

Miranda Kerr, Isabel Lucas, Lupita Nyong’o

Model Miranda Kerr floated through the streets of Tokyo looking like a fairy-tale princess in a pink and white printed dress by Balenciaga. Miranda wore pink peep toed bow shoes to add to the girlyness of her look. Former Home and Away actress and model Isabel Lucas looked gorgeous in bright blue at the End Game premier in NYC. I love the 3D rouched effect on this dress and the floatiness of the skirt. Fashion girl and lovable It Girl, Luptia Nyong’o wore a white dress with printed blue flowers, not unlike the dress Kate Middlton also wore on tour in Australia. I love this look on Lupita and she finished her look with off white-silver shoes.  Very girly and fun for Spring/Summer.

Let me know your favourite look.

Best Dressed January 2014

Whhooweee! What a crazy month January was for celebrity fashion. The Golden Globes, The Grammy Awards, The National Television Awards and various film and TV critic lunches and cocktail parties have left us with loads of fashion to drool over. Added to this some book promo tours and television chat show appearance and it makes for a seriously picture heavy post.

Trend Alert: Yellow

Angelina Rose Olivia Munn Lupita Nyong'o

Angelina Rose Olivia Munn Lupita Nyong’o

Yellow has been everywhere this red carpet season. While it has yet to have an outing on any major awards red carpets I’m sure we might see it throughout the spring season.  Angelina Rose wore a prom-esque short yellow dress with a broach inspired design on the side. The Newsroom actress Olivia Munn wore a bright Victoria Beckham halter dress with matching white shoes and clutch, which I love, and this seasons It Girl, Lupitia Nyong’o wore a low cut yellow number with cute shoes to promote her Oscar Nominated Film 12 Years A Slave.

Block Colours

Anna Kendrick Dita Von Tease Jessica Chastain

Anna Kendrick Dita Von Tease Jessica Chastain

Anna Kendrick looked lovely in Reem Acra at the Unicef 2014 Ball. The sheer lace keyhole cutouts are stylish, on trend and add an extra edge to an otherwise plain gown. Dita Von Tease kept it elegant in puple and Jessica Chastain wore Nina Ricci to the Critic Choice Movie Awards. Doesn’t it slightly resemble the Gucci number Luptita wore to the SAG Awards?

Zosia Mamet Nina Dobrev Naomie Harris

Zosia Mamet Nina Dobrev Naomie Harris

Girls actress Zosia Mamet has never looked better. I love this Elizabetta Franchi combo that she wore to promote Girls Season 3 in London.  On the opposite end of the colour spectrum, Nina Dobrev donned an orange embellished gown at the Art of Elysuim Heaven Gala. Naomie Harris continues her run of amazing dresses in this Naeem Kham sheer lace white dress which she wore to the Palm Springs International Film Awards.

Gold and Silver

Alison Williams Jessica Alba Lupita Nyong'o

Alison Williams Jessica Alba Lupita Nyong’o

The ever stylish Alison Williams didn’t disappoint in an interesting mullet style Osman dress which she wore at the third annual Sean Penn Haiti fundraiser event. Jessica Alba always looks enviously well at any event she attends. The crop-top and skirt combo she wore to the launch of Tory Burch’s flagship store in LA is going on my style inspiration board!

Helen Mirren Lupita Nyong'o Odette Annable

Helen Mirren Lupita Nyong’o Odette Annable

Lupitia Nyong’o features again on Januarys best dressed list… How stunning is this gold dress?! This lady is on a complete roll at the moment. I can’t wait to see what she wears in the next few months. She is also featured below in a vintage Valentina short daisy dress. Stunning! Helen Mirren and Odette Annable wore silver/grey sparkly numbers on the red carpet.

Model David Gandy deviated from a traditional black and white number and opted for a really stylish blue suit with creamy white dress coat at the Saville Row fashion show in London. Tinnie Tempa looked very fashion forward at the Burberry London menswear show in a grey suit with green overcoat with fur trim. Michael B Jordan added some interesting detail to his suit with stylish black and white shoes.

Katy Perry wearing Valentino, Beyonce in Michael Costello and Iggy Azaalea in Ellie Sabb

Singer Katy Perry took music to the red carpet in a white fullskirt Valentino gown which was definitely appropriate for the occasion. Superhuman Beyonce wore a white sheer Michael Costello gown which looks like it could have inspired by Adam and Eve. Paired with a bold lip and messy Hair B looked amazing as usual. Iggy Azalea looked elegant in an Ellie Sabb number, the best I think she has looked at an event for a long time.

Christie Teigan wearing Johanna Johnson, Ciara and Taylor Swift in Gucci gowns

Christie Teigen wearing Johanna Johnson, Ciara and Taylor Swift in Gucci gowns

Newly married Christe Teigen wore a Johanna Johnson metallic number to support her husband John Legend on the red carpet. Keeping with the metallic theme Ciara showed off her babybump in a stunning Gucci dress with mini pool train. The detail on this dress is incredible and Ciara looks like a superstar wearing it. Taylor Swift, also in Gucci, took a break from her girly dresses and opted for a chain detail floor length dress, keeping her hair and jewellery simple to compliment her look.

As always, I’d love to know who you thought looked best during the month of January!

Best Dressed November 2013

November showcased some great winter red carpet looks to ease us into the upcoming award season. Film premieres and TV photocalls displayed shorter, fun looks to banish the winter blues. Chic street style should hopefully provide us with some much need winter fashion inspiration for the cold days of December.
